MISSION ROCK - BUILDING G

Henning Larsen

Phase: Concept Development | 2019

Mission Rock is part of the development efforts taking place on Mission Bay. The zoning envelope and setback restrictions on the site gave the overall massing a configuration which was not ideal as the massing felt low and stunted. To counter this, the tower massing was divided and sheered to provide slender volumes along with eroding the podium with stepped terraces.  Drawing on geological inspiration, the facade was aimed at a mineral-type material. The process of a precast concrete system was iterated on with variations of aggregate size, texture, and finish. The design intent for the units in majority of the Exterior Wall Systems looked at double curved geometry along the jamb and sill of the unit.
